Welcome to the New Message Board!
Welcome to the new message board for Ballet Instructor Website. This forum is open to all things concerning dance. I am currently starting a new dance company, so I am particularly interested in discussing new thoughts towards dance and approach. Feel free to open dialogue with others about dance matters. ***If you have a particular question that you wish to direct to only me, please email me at shahab@balletinstructor.com instead of posting here. Thanks, Shahab |

My daughter is just starting prepointe. I've talked to some people who recommend putting the toe of the shoe in a door jamb and closing the door on it to break in the shoe. Is it necessary to "break in" a prepointe shoe? Is there a recommended method of "breaking in" a prepointe shoe? Is this a comfort issue, or a health issue? Thanks for your help and good luck on th new studio. mc |

Softening a new shoe by method of pounding on the ground or slamming a door on it has been going on for some time. It is not comfortable to use feet in this manner and any method that can add some comfort, especially at the beginning, is acceptable. From the outside, it looks absurd. Why are they breaking brand new shoes in this way? These activities eventually reduce, most often when the feet get used to it enough and/or one is gifted with proper feet. But, very often it is habitual, which is passed on. |
