Hi Roma,
The period you will be visiting will be just outside the UK school holiday period and thus will not be as busy as the main holiday period. However, I would still recommend you book in advance as the Cotswolds is busy at all times of the year. Your choice as to self-catering, B&B or hotel.
The Cotswolds is a very large area but mot people would consider the North Cotswolds as the more usual place to visit (not to denegrate the lovely places in the South Cotswolds before any one gets a chance to reply !). I would recommend staying in an area around Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold or Moreton-in-Marsh. these are all relatively central for visiting the rest of the Cotswolds.
I would highly recommend you hire a car as it is the best way to visit the many lovely villages etc. If you rely on public transport you will find it very difficult to get around.
