On behalf of the village of Broadway I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the 'smell' on one evening of the burning of waste straw from horses bedding belonging to the North Cotswolds Hunt Stables.
To correct the mis-informed 'Broadway Resident' - Farmers do not burn valuable 'animal waste' - this is rather returned to the land for enrichment!
Broadway is an English rural village and on the very odd occasion has to put up with the predominant surrounding Farming activities that some city people may find a nuisance.
I personally live in the centre of the village and did not suffer any unpleasantness or noticed any smoke. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Replying to: Hello,
My family and I just spent 9 days in Broadway. Everything was perfect except the smoke and the terrible smell from something burning within the village.
I asked a local what it was and she thought it was from farmers burning the animal waste and asked that I report it because it's upsetting the locals as well.
The smoke was so bad one night, when we first got back to the village, we thought it was fog until the car filled with the odor. The next day when using the car again, the odor had settled within the car engine and interior and made our family very ill.
I was not able to hang laundry out for any length of time because I never knew when the buring would start again.
I think it's a shame that such a beautiful place will soon have a poor reputation. It's not only the odor, but the smoke made my son's asthma act up.
I hope something is being done about it for both the locals and visitors. I would love to return someday.
