Sonny on the cover of Guitar Player
Hey everyone, just thought I'd let you know that Sonny will be featured on the cover of Guitar Player Magazine for the month of October with a full article as well. So lots of magazines to pick up lately... Vintage Guitar for Sept. Blues Revue for Aug/Sept and now Guitar Player for October, Congrats Sonny on the well deserved attention from these magazines! All right!!! It'll be fantastic to see his face on those magazines all at once. (And re: "10 Things"--first, git yerself a mojo from Duane Allman...) |

Re: "10 Things..." Ditch that flat pick. Get yourself a comfortable thumb pick, and use all five fingers on your right hand. Is this one thing, or two? or three? or five? %-) |

That reminds me of seeing Bonnie Raitt at Jazzfest in 04--we were right up front and could see that she had picks on at least 3 fingers (and her thumb?)... |

This new October GP issue with Sonny on cover arrived yesterday. The two feature articles are titled "Louisiana Hayride" and "Slide Secrets". It's all very nice - thorough interview, good photos both new and vintage, nice peer comments page and a few tricks and licks notated. Bravo GP for an overdue feature. Also a nice article about Tommy Emmanuel in this same issue. |

Great article! Of course, as a tech-challenged fan, most of the gear specifics sailed waaaay over my head. But I enjoyed Sonny's explanations of his song writing and the influences on his music. His replies in the interview are thoughtful and candid and natural. I love Sonny quoting Howard Roberts, "You have to have a built-in crap detector..." Kind of wish GP could have replaced some of Sonny's older publicity stills with some up-to-date photos, WITH GLASSES, in action, but all in all, terrific coverage! |

Yes... And I hasten to add - a career in music isn't the only professional pursuit that benefits from having a built-in crap detector. This is indeed a very timely subject. And GP didn't even bother asking us for some more recent photos. What's up with that? %-) |
