It is my personal view that this website and message board of The BETFOR Association has been besmirched by divisiveness and rancor. Even worse, the Association itself has suffered a loss of its good name and reputation that can possibly never be recovered.
I created this website with the encouragement of our Past Chairman, Jim Crow, and his comrade, Tom Cohoon. It is freely offered. But I tire of suffering the abuse of some: abuse to me, to your officers, to your Association.
I become properly active here again, after what has been a month-long effort to recreate as far as possible - in both content and flavour - the original "Old Soldiers' Home" website - now at www.OldSoHo.com - of the American Col. Thomas Cohoon, a past Honorary Member of the BETFOR Association.
I declare a right, at least here, to expect BETFOR Association members and our friends to honour standards of decency and respect for and among all our ex-servicemen. After updating and reviewing MY ground-rules for acceptable use of this message board with our Chairman, I again take direct human control of its content.
There are anomalies in what has been happened here. Some posts have been understandably removed. Other posts have - and may still - disappear without human intervention, without understandable 'rhyme or reason'. There have been times when I see different content than you. The Canadian provider of this board software has not chosen to speak directly to our problems, although I believe that they have not studied my concerns sufficiently.
To the best of my knowledge all automated restraints on posting have today been removed or disabled, with the exception of the profanity screen, which should do no more than mask inappropriate language.
To reaffirm my position, this website and its message board are provided for the benefit of the legitimate BETFOR Association, founded in 2002.
If my views and actions are deemed unacceptable by the putative Acting Secretary of the break-away 'Steering Group', there is an alternative. I offered to Ray Boyles on 18th December a pointer to tools which allow him and his dissident group (his term, not mine) to create their own NO-COST website. I repeat that address here - www.bravenet.com/webhosting/ - for all to see.
Gentlemen, lay down your truncheons and man your keyboards. Thank you.
