Message:   Peter Sexton has an interesting way of looking at Association matters. I disagree with him, which is my indisputable right as a Member of this Association. He has no right to tell any Member to 'butt out' or to 'be quiet'.

First, to my qualification as a Member: I claim the same standing as, for example, Mike Cooper. I was a member of a military family of XIII Corps, evidenced by my enrollment in 1946 at the school operated by XIII Corps for the youth members of its military families. (It was almost within the shadow of Harry's Bar.) Further, I was invited by both past and present Chairmen of the Association to serve on their staff.

To the matter of the management Committee of the Association. Note that I have never capitalised 'management' The governance of this Association is delegated to a constitutionally ordained 'Committee' "to manage the affairs of the Association."

Within that authority, this 'management' Committee has the right to create other committees to assist and support it.

I have never claimed to be, or acted as, a member of that Committee.

As a member of the Association staff, I am obliged and expected to support and represent its officers and Committee as they may wish and direct. If I fail or refuse to do so, then I am obliged to resign.

IF Peter Sexton denies the truth of this, of both the positive obligation to perform and the negative of recusal in case of conflict, THEN his view is simply more perverted and untenable than I would believe.

But he tells me to 'be quiet' and to 'butt out'.

Now it gets interesting. Peter Sexton writes, "No MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE has ever been muted by members." 'To moot' means 'to raise for discussion'. 'To mute' means 'to silence' He may have meant to say that we should raise matters related to the Committee for discussion. But his actions, with respect to both me and to the Committee, is to silence us. Actions speak louder than words.

Patrick Skelly, 080, for himself,
honoured to be a proper, legitimate, and supportive Member of this Association,
... and discouraged at the muting efforts of a small cabal where the "sole aim of the dissident group is for Richard Griffiths to be removed from the role as Chairman of the BETFOR ASSN as swiftly as possible." (Roy Boyles, 1st December 2007)
