It's not that the FA didn't back us up. Apparently by ECFA rules there is no grounds to 'appeal against' such an appeal. Therefore they will not hear anything we have to say about it. The main FA will not hear it either, as it is considered a county FA matter. Therefore we have no recourse. It is why I have taken the action I have. If ECFA know how to run our league better than us, let them put their own management in charge of the league. If they choose to ignore letters from clubs and referees condeming a club and ignore other evidence from referees and clubs who have left, let them take the flack for it. It seems crazy that at a time when football needs referees more than ever, county chose to ignore or dismiss evidence presented by them. What price being a referee in Essex now? |

Peter, I have been watching the situation re Elan closely over the past few months, hearing about their disciplinary record and seeing the action taken against them which I completely agree with. First of all, I do not know much about this "technicality" which Elan played on to get re-instated. What does this relate to exactly? Secondly, despite this "technicality", I cannot believe that this would even be taken into consideration by the ECFA hearing committee when you hear of the severity of some of the reports I have heard about this team and their abysmal record. Thirdly on the account of expelling this club - obviously under your league rules you have the right to expel clubs that are bringing the league's name into disrepute. This is a rule which Essex FA have to, and always do, approve each season and they have basically removed this right based on this decision as despite any "technicality", they are still bringing the league's name and, may I add, the Essex FA's own name into disrepute by allowing such teams to play under their banner. I do believe however, the league have a strong case with the Football Association, in making a complaint against the Essex FA for the decision they have made in respect to ignoring a far more important issue due to this technicality and for not acting on the neutral views of official referees and league officials. Of course, the league have no obligation to accept their membership for next season, IF they even apply. They are however going to end up in another league, probably under a different name, no doubt causing similar problems. But I think I speak on behalf of everybody related to the league in asking you to rethink your resignation and return to the role you perform excellently. It would be a tragedy for one club to cause any greater damage to the league having already lost referees and potentially clubs and now your good self based on this decision. |

I agree, i think its a real shame that you are leaving us Peter. I understand your decision, but feel like it is a loss to the league if you were to go over this.Is your decision final or can your mind be changed? |

Thanks to everyone for their support and wonderfully kind comments. All I can say is that at this time my resignation still stands. The only thing that will change my mind is if ECFA see the error of their ways and back down. We MUST be able to run our own league and not be dictated to by ANYONE who can and who can't take part. We know we are a fair and honest bunch and we know the meeting was conducted correctly. I must also add that one comment about older committee members was a bit unfair. Stan and Tom do a great job and without them we would be lost. I could not spare the time to be either secretary or chairman. Finally to 'Interested Party'. I cannot say what the technicality was over the message board; there are good reasons I won't mention it. However if you send me a private e-mail I will explain more to you. Once again thank you all for your support and if the situation changes I will let you all know. |

It appears you have a similar situation to the one the Combination had with a team called Highgrove. It would be probably wrong for me to cite all of the wrong doings, but in the main, it was for abuse, threats and the likes against a number of Ref's. The club and players were invited to appear at county on numerous occaisions. It got to the situation where a number of Ref's, in an act of unity, refused to ref their games. The county, did little to address the problem so it was effectively allowed to continue. Suspensions can only be given to players. When it's the coaching side of the team, County can only issue fines. They can't ban them. ESFC did try to address the situation but similarily it appears to your case, were restricted by ECFA in dealing with it the way they wanted. IN THIS CASE, COUNTY GAVE THE TEAM ENOUGH ROPE AND THE DID HANG THEMSELVES - eventually! If only they had acted sooner and supported their match officials much of the continued abuse would have been avoided. |

I think it's about time the old school, old timers up at county got out there zimmer frames and mobilaty scooters and attended some of the sunday morning games that these so called (trouble teams)are playing ,so that they can see what the refs and the decent teams in our league have to put up with. Then maybe they would understand that our committee were trying to inforce a program that the FA started, aimed at stamping out the pysical and verble abuse that is plagueing OUR GAME I think it is time that the ECFA bring in some younger people who are more in touch with the currnent game |
