Just browsing the ESCFL website out interest and saw your question as to why Ref's don't come into the dressing room to introduce themselves. As a local referee, who admittedly does not referee on your league, its an interesting question. I have in the past attempted to do this. The problems faced by a ref in doing this, is very often a Ref isn't made overly welcome in a players dressing room before the game. When I conduct a boot and bling check before the game normally on the pitch, thats a good time to issue requests. I prefer to let the skippers know what I expect from them and some of the things that I will and won't tolerate. I bet you the best Ref's you've had this year are those that explain their decisions and talk to the players. Sadly it seems too many Ref's prefer to remain silent and let their cards do the talking. |

I'm going to agree with wkdref on this one. As an officer of the league I have to sometimes conduct card checks at cup finals during half-time. Some clubs are fine about this, but others don't like any interruptions, from the minute they arrive until after the final whistle. One of the most successful clubs in the league's history was Thames Water. They absolutely hated anything that affected their preparation or match talks. Having heard some of these talks it was very motivational and the manager demanded 100% concentration on him. And yes, referees that explain their decisions always were better thought of by my team than those that just rely on a whistle and one word comments. You might not agree with the decision, but you respect the fact that he gives is version of the event rather than blow a whistle and shout “Go away” or “Shut up”. Finally to wkdref, please contact Frank Marsh on 07932 916685 and get on our league, at least give us one Sunday each month! |

I will keep Frank's details on record. For the last few years I have given my services to the Combination. Jimbo the ref's secretary has always looked after his family unit and as a result, if I'm honest with you, I've had no reason to look elsewhere. If things do change I will be in contact. Have a great summer |
