Mercer County OH is almost NO KILL

If you're going to post a site like this, please at least keep an eye out to find out it things have changed. Together with a few others, I have coordinated rescues from Mercer County since the fall of 2006. The death of Doogie, the yellow lab whose graphic photos you have posted, triggered major changes at the pound. Since November of 2006, not a single adoptable dog has been euthanized in Mercer County. There were fewer than ten dogs euthanized in 2007, all of them biters. To date in 2008, I am aware of five dogs euthanized, all undeniably vicious and unpredictable. These dogs were euthanized at the local vet, by IV injection. Throughout all this, Tom Powell, the warden, has bent over backwards to help get his dogs out. He drives them to the vet or the boarding facility for rescues. He holds dogs as long as he possibly can, and he gives us plenty of advance warning when he's getting so full that he's afraid he may have to euth for space.
Ir is profoundly UNFAIR to continue to label a pound or a warden as abusive when there is now at least an 18 month period with statistics like this. Please give credit where credit is due.
