An opportunity to make a difference!

Dear Dog Lovers,

I am starting a volunteer organization to promote responsible pet ownership, community canine areas in general and their use, and to help animals in need in the Arlington County area. I'm hoping these goals will be accomplished by interacting with area schools, condo/ homeowners associations, helping senior citizens with the pet expenses, helping rescue groups/shelters with their spay/neuter programs and vet bills, among other things.

If anyone is interested in potentially serving on the board or otherwise volunteering, please know the only eligibility requirements are that you: 1) care about the animals in our community; 2) have a willingness to commit/devote some effort to the organization and to the cause; and 3) respect your commitment to the organization and be a contributing member of a passionate team of animal lovers. Participation is not meant to be a burden.

You are invited to submit statements of about two paragraphs detailing what you feel you can contribute to the organization, your vision for the organization if you have any, and why you would like to be considered for board membership by 6 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2008. Statements and e-mails can be sent to me at jajgreen@gmail.com.

For those of you who don't know me, I have significant organization-building experience. I founded ArlingtonDogs in 1996 and also helped establish the Northern Virginia Dog Park Coalition. Thanks to ArlingtonDogs members, the hundreds of volunteers over the years, the existing ArlingtonDogs board, county officials and the business community, and especially, the community canine area sponsoring groups, Arlington's dogs, their humans, and the entire county have safe dog exercise areas.

Feel free to cross-post this e-mail, particularly to the community canine area users and sponsoring group members.

Best wishes to you all for the coming holidays,
Judy Green
