Morning Bill
yes I totally agree with you, I think low cost airlines would definitely be a bonus in this current financial climate and may attract more visitors. I cannot understand why these low cost budget airlines haven't jumped in theres money to be made lol.
This trip I met a lot of middle income couples that had booked on the spur looking for a cheap break with guaranteed Sun Sea and a bit of relaxation. I found it crazy that it was cheaper to book a package than a flight only and of course only had 1 choice of who I could fly with directly from the UK.
However I can see where the gripes from other tourists set in as most expected very low cost living expenses ( Gambia is the 13th or 14th poorest country I think) and especially where the hotel prices were concerned, this was far from it more expensive than UK prices in some cases.
Some 1st time tourists are unaware of great local places to eat and drink etc and the hotels do use this to their advantage. I don't think this would be such an issue if the cost or travel though healthy competition was lower making it more comparable to places like the canaries etc.
Yes Gambias very much like Marmite one taste and you either love it or hate it x |
