Message:   Thanks Shelley its nice to hear from someone so positive, I really have no issues with anyone on this forum, but the comments made in response to my post only highlight why I hardly ever post If i have upset anyone then i can only apologise and it ends now, as for being immature you only have to read postings from Boo Hoo re: my relationship to all make up your own minds. From a gambian perspective my husband has now boycotted even reading the posts due to the negativity around gambian/european relationships and the way gambian men are portrayed. He also finds it really insulting that people assume that if your defensive over your relationships that means there are problems.

we spent the first year of our relationship justifying it to friends, family etc rather than actually enjoying being together, the first year was particularly difficult due to the racism we encountered from people i had known all my life, but we came through it stronger and to this day i have not had contact with any family members for the last four years, which has been tough but its their loss.

Despite people analysing us from postings and the view that there "must be problems" that couldnt be further from the truth, hes my soulmate, my family and best friend. We are lucky that although i have been shunned by my family we have a large gambian community where we live and they have adopted me into their lives and we have a great deal of support which was what i wanted to take from this site but unfortunately that hasnt been the case.

Cross cultural relationships are difficult, at the end of the day in Gambia families all live together in compounds, my husband used to find this really difficult that its "just us" but we worked together to overcome this, we meet up every sunday with friends about 20 gambians and partners to play football and just enjoy each others company. I know many european/gambian relationships that do work and its a shame there are not more positive happy stories, but hey thats life.

I hope this clears up any issues, and once again if ive upset anyone im truly sorry i just take offence to peoples unfounded opinions, and at the end of the day the majority of the postings re relationships are from women who have been conned, i was merely trying to portray the other side of the coin which i hope i have now achieved.
