Hi Happy you posted twice was that to get the message across lol.
I think its a shame that your husband or other Gambians do not contribute to the forum it would be nice to hear from their cultural perspective but I can understand his reluctance, on the other hand ive met Gambians in Gambia that disagree with a lot of these relationships as they feel they contribute to the negativity surrounding Gambian men/women.
Like I said in a previous post, that I met two European woman who had also been disowned by their families so I don't think this kind of pressure is unusual and like you they had also made a support network with other couples. I do think its important that you get a good support network outside the relationship.
You dont even have to be in a relationship to get hassle from your family though my family are still convinced im gonna run off with some beach boy and juice off into the sunset
I think its sad that you and others spend time and energy justifying your relationship (life's to short and hey while they're talking about you they're leaving some other poor bugger alone!!) I think its different if you ask for advice (many people do and then don't like the answers they find) but in fairness most of these relationships end up as business relationships normally with the non- Gambian having no idea that that was the idea and this is where the animosity sets in.
I appreciate your honesty its nice to hear from the other side of the fence even if you are in the minority. xx |
