This is a message forum for people interested in the Tuesday and Thursday evening off road rides that start from outside the Cross Keys pub at Brookside, Cambridge at 7.30 pm. The rides vary in length between 15 and 35 miles depending on season, enthusiasm and destination. We usually average 11 - 14 mph over the trip (not counting stops). There is always a pub stop at a village outside of Cambridge, usually around 9.30 pm.
New riders are always welcome - we're a friendly bunch. You can post here first or just turn up and ride. Do introduce yourself though so we know we have a rider who potentially doesn't know the local routes.
You will need decent lights. A regular town commuting light will not be sufficient. The requirements are spelled out in a FAQ below. Other basics to bring with you are: water, an extra layer of clothing (it's almost always colder when we leave the pub), a pump, and a spare tube and/or repair patches. We also strongly recommend you wear a helmet.

And now a public service announcement from the Runslist Fairy:
DISCLAIMER. MOUNTAIN BIKING CAN BE DANGEROUS. YOU JOIN US AT YOUR OWN RISK.
SAFETY BRIEFING. 1 Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced. 2 Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit 3 Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather. 4 When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front. 5. Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube. 6. Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
DON’T TRASH OUR PLANET Leave it the way you would like to find it, so don’t pollute, scar or damage the Great Outdoors. Be friendly to other countryside users, slow down, say Good Morning/Afternoon and smile a lot.
