UPDATE on plans for the Corps Exhbit presentation

Corps Exhibit presentation at Historical Society 4/28/04

The Norwood Park Imperials will present an exhibit of Imperials Corps History and memorabilia to the Norwood Park Historical Society on Wednesday, April 28th. This exhibit has been coordinated by the Corps history team, and led by Wayne Mounsey (drummer 1938-49).

A significant addition to the ceremony is the performance of 1960's style drum corps music by a group of Norwood Park alums who are now members of the Royal Airs Alumni Exhibition Corps. This "small corps" will be a great addition and you would all be happy to see our alums playing again! (There will also be members from OTHER corps who want to help celebrate our memorial!)

The (planned) schedule is as follows:
. Society site open at 6 PM for viewing, including Corps exhibit.
. Society Board meeting opens at 7 PM (we have been told that some
pre-planned Society business will be conducted at the outset).
. Corps presentation to begin about 7:30 PM:
. presentation of music by Corps alumni, performed outside on the
LARGE lawn of the facility.
. introduction of mini-corps and alums: David Borck
. introduction of Corps History team & remarks: David Borck
. presentation of exhibit by Wayne Mounsey
. Remarks and closing by Historical Society Director (Sue Kroll)

Location of NP Historical Society:
5624 N. Newark Ave
Chicago, IL 60631
Telephone: 773-631-4633
(located 1 block west of Taft High School)

Directions:
Coming from Nagle Avenue and the Kennedy expressway (I90), turn WEST onto BRYN MAWR AVE., (which is a frontage road to the expressway there), then turn RIGHT (north) onto N. NEWARK AVE. Proceed to the Society address.

Coming from North or South via the I294 Tollway, take I 190 east (at O'Hare) to Nagle Avenue. Then, follow the above directions.

Parking: the Society has a very small parking area, but there is parking available on the street. Best bet: park at the Norwood Park Fieldhouse or Taft High School and walk 1 block to the site.

Note that, prior to appearing at the Historical Society, the corps will form and warm up at the Norwood Park Fieldhouse, then march to the Society location, stopping along the way to play at the home of an RA alum (Steve Bozniak) in honor of his ailing mother.

Following the ceremony, a gathering of alumni and friends is planned at DINO'S restaurant, located nearby on Higgins Avenue, just east of Harlem Avenue. Pizza, burgers, beer and friends .. a great combination! Plan to join us!

Special thanks to TOM WALTER for his help in arranging the appearance of the small corps and finding a place for an after-ceremony gathering. The support and cooperation of the Royal Airs Alumni Corps is gratefully acknowledged as well.
