NPI ALUMNI HISTORY TEAM: UPDATE 2/8/05

This small team of volunteers was formed in 2003 to meet a few limited objectives, primarily #1 and #2 below. (We added a few as time went on.) With the completion of the Corps Exhibit at the Norwood Park Historical Society, the History team completed its initial objectives in 2004:

1. Prepared a summary of the Corps history for the Drum Corps World "History of Drum Corps" book.
2. Prepared a more comprehensive Corps History, for use with the Corps exhibit at the Historical Society, the Corps website and other uses.
3. Established a Corps website, with Larry Kalck as the "webmaster".
4. Developed and maintained an extensive e-mail list of alums (Dave Borck)as well as a Corps Roster (Dale Bowman).
5. Developed a collection of donated drum corps magazines, (from 1950-1979)boxed in a protected manner, for alumni use at gatherings & reunions.
6. Provided materials to the NP Historical Society for a permanent Corps exhibit (April, 2004).

The Team focus has now been changed to:

1. assist with alumni communications via the website, e-mail and the Directory.
2. maintain and expand the Corps website, adding more historical information, stories and pictures as they become available.
3. encourage and assist with selected alumni projects, when feasible.

We are happy to announce the addition of two very helpful alums to our team:

1. JOHN ANDERSON ... Brass, 1959 to 1966 (includes Cadets). A great supporter of the Corps (and our website) and a "famous" Civil Engineer! John has recently been very active working with Keith Normandin on the "musical CD" project!

2. BOB SHREFFLER .. Percussion 1970-73 (including Cadets), then Drum Major 1978-79. Also assistant drum instructor for several years. Bob was a significant contributor of materials for the NP Historical Society exhibit and has been a frequent contributor on the Corps website. He is also helping Keith Normandin with an update to the Corps History, covering the 1970's.

Welcome them to the team!

Current projects being developed:

1. History of the Corps on CD. A (draft) CD has been developed from the materials prepared by Bruce Borck last year. Quantity reproduction is being explored.

2. Develop a "Through the Years" musical CD of the Corps. Recordings are being collected now with a view toward producing a CD. To date, the years covered include: 1956, 1959 thru 1966, 1970 and 1979. Anyone with good recordings of other years (especially 1948 and 1950) should give us a shout!

3. We have a number of materials from the 1950s to be added to the website, but need help in editing and scanning these materials for electronic entry to the website. Anyone who could help with this task should contact the webmaster (Larry Kalck).

While donations to fund the Corps website are always welcome, help with projects is more valuable. In addition to the above regarding "scanning", we have a number of ideas for stories which have been submitted .. but writers are needed.

Thanks again for your interest and help. As always, your comments and suggestions are welcome.
