"Anti- Cavalier" feeling

Bob Shreffler indicated that he understands the "anti-Cavalier" feeling among many NP alums (gee - does it show?)

Well, maybe that feeling changed after the 1960s, but for those who marched earlier, the consensus of opinion was that the Cavaliers were VERY good (too good) at "playing the system". That is, their music and driull (especually the drill) was well designed to be sinmple and easy to execute.

And, they DID execute. This was especially important in the early days when GE was only 10 points out of the total score! After all, why do they have the nickname of "The Green Machine"? They are NOT remembered for their great music or programs.

So, other corps were beaten by the corps who were viewed as doing the least .. but getting the best scores.

Strange however, that even then, many of our best drum corps friends were also members of that Corps!

In the 1970s, the corps seemed to become a bit more normal. Certainly their music improved and their field programs were more like others.

In later years, the Cavaliers departed from their more military style, especially in the color guard and drill programs. The color guard members were especially viewed with some disdain and puzzlement ..
they were very "gay" in their appearance.

Now, the Cavaliers are WAY different. Some (as me) would say that they are now on a different planet ...along with most DCI corps.

Well, this is all just one person's opinion.

Are there others who'd like to comment?
