Cavalier Alumni Corps

The Cavaliers' 60th anniversary is next summer, as well as Don Warren's 80th birthday. In honor of these two occasions, Don Warren is releasing an autobiography, and the corps will become the next to present an alumni corps, performing next summer at the Cavaliers' home shows and DCI semifinals (on 8/8/08). They are currently deciding on uniforms and music, but nothing has been released yet.

And yes, I plan to march, if I can afford it!

Ok - let the comments begin! John? Dave?

Re: Cavalier Alumni Corps

It would be interesting to see some of the Cavaliers 60s color guard alumni dressed in the machine costumes from last year and prancing around the field. However, I doubt that I'll be arranging my schedule to make a special trip to see the Cavaliers.

There's my comment Bob. It would be nice to meet you though.

Re: Cavalier Alumni Corps

Congratulations to the Cavaliers on reaching their 60th year!

While I have no use for the style of the current shows (and never appreciated their work in tnhe 1960s), I have ALWAYS admired their management and pride. That is what has kept them alive for so long.

There were also a number of years when I really enjoyed their drum line ... the years of Dan Spalding, Jim Roussel and Gus Barbero come to mind.

AND, Don Warren is a true gentleman, and a real CLASS ACT!

It will be interesting to see what the alumni corps is like .. uniforms, music , field show and membership.

We don't want to beat a dead horse.

I do agree with Dave about Don Warren. Too bad he isn't running things now.

Re: Cavalier Alumni Corps

BOB! We are ALWAYS nice!

We just keep the Cavaliers in perspective! (You should try that!)

And, as John said, why beat a dead horse?

Re: Cavalier Alumni Corps

Haven't heard a WORD from Bob about the Cavies alumni corps. Is this still a "go" for next year? Are they keeping all this a big secret?

Re: Cavalier Alumni Corps

It's still a go, but I'm no longer involved. Just couldn't handle the money, the time away from Shary, plus I just got a promotion (I'm now an Assistant Principal). I still hope to see the group at some point, and it is definitely still a go and should be very good.

And there is also a Spirit drum line reunion in Atlanta next summer (from the Tom Float years, and Float will be there), so it's a big "Old Fart Summer" for me next year!

Re: Cavalier Alumni Corps

We're still formulating the plans, but we'll probably do some informal drumming at least. Impossible to put that many drummers together and NOT play something, right?
