SAD NEWS TO REPORT: DAN HORST

Dan Horst, husband of 1960s guard member Gayle Cummings, died recently. Our sincere condolences to the family.

Dan Ronald Horst

Dan Ronald Horst of Inverness. Services for Dan Ronald Horst, 64, will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at Smith- Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine, proceeding to St. Theresa Catholic Church, for a Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Born March 19, 1943, in Providence, R.I., he died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007. Dan was the owner of Oak Alley Saloon in Palatine. He was also a former marching member of The Cavaliers and on their board of directors. He was the beloved husband of Gayle (nee Cummings); loving father of Michael Horst; son of Gottfried and the late Edwina Horst; dear son-in-law of Virginia and the late Laurence Cummings; brother of Donald Horst; and dear brother-in-law of Larry, Brian (Joanna) and Scott Cummings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Cavaliers, P.O. Box 501, Rosemont, IL 60018 or The University of Chicago, Development Office for Leukemia Research, 773-702-1000. This was also mentioned on the Cavaliers alumni website, but I didn't realize his wife was a former Norwood member. I know Dan stayed involved with the Cavaliers right up to his untimely death, but I never had the pleasure of meeting him.

Bob: I only knew Dan when he was dating Gayle (and then married her). He was a fun guy and a good fellow. Too bad he was a Cavalier and not an Imperial!
