Great Job Dave, it's an awesome article and.....I was quoted! The Cadet uniform is still (in my mind) the greatest ever to grace the field of competition. I hope that they will continue to wear it, even though drum corps as we once knew it is gone forever!!!

Dave it's just a great story of our history,it
couldn't have been written any better.I definetly
have to give it "TWO BIG THUMBS UP"

I also enjoyed reading the tribute written to us
by Garfield (Holy Name),that was nice to read.
I had to think how nice it is to hear from someone
that they remember, especially from a well respected,
admired, and always been considered one of the 'Big
3" from the east during my years in Norwood. They
always left an impression with me everytime I seen
them and competed against them.

And I hope too that they will always keep there
uniforms, otherwise that part of the past will be
lost.

Dave those two photo's you used in the history of
Norwood, one with us on the starting line at the
Dream and the other on the line at Ebbet's Field
in 1958 are really great. Can I get a copy of both
of those anywhere? They would be nice to have as a
rememberence.

Rich,

The starting line at the Dream is posted in the photo album (1960s). You should be able to copy it from there. I have the original that was scanned from a slide.

You might also be able to copy that and the other photo from the Holy Name site. I believe it's also part of the history section posted on the forum and you should be able to download it from there.

Re: TRIBUTE TO THE IMPERIALS ON THE HOLY NAME CADETS ALUMNI WEBSITE!

Thank's John for the info on those photo's,and Dave
thank's for the two e-mails you sent.

In my last posting about the tribute to us from
Holy Name(Garfield)I forgot to mention the photo
of Garfield standing on the steps of the Capital
building in D.C.in 1954,wearing the same uniforms
they still have today, that's longivity,to say the
least.I say good for them, and again hope it never
never changes.

Although the Madison Scouts, Troopers and Cavaliers are still active in DCI. The Cadets uniforms are perhaps the only link to the past that one sees at a contest.

It's a real paradox as the Cadet's director, George Hopkins, is the prime mover in the move to make DCI a band activity.

Re: TRIBUTE TO THE IMPERIALS ON THE HOLY NAME CADETS ALUMNI WEBSITE!

And I wonder how long before he changes the uniform? He's ruined everything else!

Re: TRIBUTE TO THE IMPERIALS ON THE HOLY NAME CADETS ALUMNI WEBSITE!

actually, he DID change the uniform already, but changed it back.

A few years ago he added some opposing colors to the back of the uniform, if I remember correctly. Maybe someone else can remember the specifics.

Anyway, it was really dumb!

A couple of years ago the Cadets had uniforms that looked the same from the front or the back.....looked the same regardles which direction they were marching......interesting but also distracting

Your right Bob the way George Hopkins is trying
to changes things with DCI,maybe he'll try and
make changes in the uniforms.Hopefully he'll be too
preoccupied with DCI.

I wonder now if the members would have any say in
a matter like that,as far as the uniforms. It would
be nice to see the Alumni take a stand,if he tried
to change them again, and just say to "Georgie Boy"
leave them them the way they are.

I would imagine most of the kids love what he's doing, or they wouldn't be there. There's not much sense of history in DCI these days, with rare exceptions.

A number of NP alums have posted comments on the Holy Name Cadets guestbook. Go to their website (www.theholynamecadets.org) and click on Guestbook.

BTW .. I am certainly NO fan of George Hopkins and his strange approach to "improving" DCI. BUT, he DID do one thing that I appreciate: he saved the Cadets from folding in the early 1980s. AND, as John Anderson pointed out, he is a strong leader .. so he keeps the organization moving and strong.

Re: Re: TRIBUTE TO THE IMPERIALS ON THE HOLY NAME CADETS ALUMNI WEBSITE!

I recently looked at the Tribute again and have to say it is really good. I especially like the pictures .. Imperials at 1958 VFW (my first National), 1943 snares (with my good friend "Older Sarge" Wayne Mounsey) and the 1963 Dream show!
