CANADIAN CORPS

John Anderson brought up an interesting question: What happened to those "World Class" Canadian corps like Oakland and Seneca? I don't have a clue and other than that 1976 show, don't remember Canadian corps in subsequent finals competition.

Not just "World Class" corps, but many other Canadian corps have disappeared, just as in the US.

The Crusaders (Etobicoke) and DeLasalle are two high level corps I remember. From earlier days, Toronto Optimists and Preston Scout House.

I only see the following listed as current DCI Open Class corps from Canada: Dutch Boy (Kitchener), H.Y.P.E (Hamilton) and Les Stentors, (Quebec).

Not a lot.

Re: CANADIAN CORPS

I think Seneca (a merger of the old Toronto Optimists and Seneca Princemen) made finals one more year in 1977 (the year of the triple conga drums and the parachute). Oakland actually won drums at prelims in 77, but the corps didn't make finals - the only time I know of where that happened. And Dutch Boy I think made finals a time or two in the 80s, doing a Frank Sinatra show. But nothing since then. I don't even know of a corps being competitive since then.

Yes, the Oakland corps had a GREAT drum line.

Re: CANADIAN CORPS

Tom Float was the instructor. He wasn't very musical, but I've never known ANYONE who could clean a line better.
