The two remaining all-male corps going co-ed.

Not once, but on two nights, I heard, at finals weekend, talk of DCI putting heat on The Cavaliers and the Madison Scouts to let females into their corps, because of pressure from Bands of America. It was just fans talking, at the bars, but it's the latest scuttlebutt. Any truth to it? Will it be in 2009?

Re: The two remaining all-male corps going co-ed.

Bill, I can see where you are going with this thread. My personal opinion on your points is that possibly (only possibly) in the future you may see one of the corps include girls on the performance field. If I had to guess who, it would be Madison. I cannot see Cavalier caving to any perceived pressure because their all male tradition is so well established and woven into the very fiber of their being. Personally, unless pressured by a court injunction, I don't think they will ever break with that tradition willingly.

IF Bands of America has that much influence on the inner workings of DCI, then DCI is in major trouble and destined to collapse. It will be a sad day when BOA controls DCI, and quite possibly the day that many corps decide to break from DCI because of that influence. There are already thousands of bands who choose not to compete or perform in BOA sponsored shows and do very well with locally sponsored shows and state organizations. They don't need BOA, and quite frankly drum corps don't need their influence either.
