PROJECT TO EXPAND CORPS EXHIBIT AT NPHS TABLED

In April, 2004, we established a Corps exhibit at the Norwood Park Historical Society (NPHS). The exhibit was dedicated in a ceremony at the NPHS site, supported by a performance by the Royal Airs Alumni Corps.

The exhibit is a small collection of Corps memorabilia, pictures and a history book. However, this exhibit is NOT on permanent public display, but is archived in a storage room. It is available for viewing only on request.

We have been asking the Board of the Historical Society to change this:

1. Add to the exhibit materials .. we have a drum and a bugle, some additional pictures as well. We would also add a US flag.

2. We would like the expanded corps exhibit to be put on PERMANENT, PUBLIC display at the Society site. Perhaps a small corner exhibit, on a table, with pictures on the wall. We feel that such a public display is appropriate, since the Corps represented Norwood Park for over 40 years and appeared at hundreds of appearances there over the years.

But, in spite of repeated telephone and written contacts by Team member Wayne Mounsey, the NPHS staff and Board have not been receptive to this so far. We need alumni help to make this happen!

We had hoped to set up a team of Corps alumni from the area (led by Norwood Park residents) …especially those with INFLUENCE with the NPHS Board … to handle this. Personal, face-to-face contact with the NPHS Board by local and influential alumni might get some interest. We have contacted a number of our alumni who live in the Norwood Park area, but have received no offers of help.

As a result, we have tabled this project until we are able to get help to work with the Historical Society Board.
