Flashback?

Top three corps in Toledo last night:

Cavaliers
Holy Name Cadets
Boston Crusaders

Is this 2009 or 1959?

Re: Flashback?

Bob, an interesting point! But, in 1959 the Cadets were the GARFIELD Cadets, having lost the name "Holy Name" at the end of 1958. (Also, in 1959, they weren't as competitive). In 1958, all three of the corps were at the top.

Re: Flashback?

Hmmmmm, I didn't mean it THAT way. The point you made was excellent. Just wanted to add some "historical" info to it.

Re: Flashback?

I'm kidding...usually I'M the one correcting historical things.

And here's some more history - Carolina Crown defeated both the Cavaliers and Phantom Regiment last night. I don't think they've ever beaten either of those corps, let alone both! Could we FINALLY have a new winner come August? And when's the last time a corps won DCI that hadn't won before - I'm thinking Star of Indiana in 1991.

That's something we haven't talked about before concerning DCI. Not only did it kill the small, local corps - it reduced the pool of potential champions to three or four corps, over and over.

Re: Flashback?

Somehow I can't think of any of them being a flashback. They are so much different.

Now if the Cavaliers came out playing "Bully" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," Boston "Guadacanal March-El Capitan", and Garfield (the Holy Name Cadets didn't exist when I was in Norwood) playing "King of Kings and French National Defile" that would be a true flashback.

I will get a chance to see the Blue Devils plus the other lesser western and midwestern (Bluecoats and Blue Knights) tonight. I think the Blue Devils have already cracked the 80 point score level.
