Re: 1972 Nationals - AL + DCI

After AL Prelims in Chicago, we immediately left (must have known we wouldn't be in prelims), and went to State Fair in Springfield. This was my first time marching on the famous race track. It was raining at prelims, so it was held inside in a building called The Collesium - with a floor made of horse manure! It was incredibly hot, and smelly, and many passed out that day!

This was also the first loss at Nationals for the Joliet American Legion Band - they had won every year since 1946! And it was the first year my Dad didn't march with them, because he was managing the Imperial Cadets and working on the Imperials truck/equipment needs. So we always blamed him for breaking their streak.

Another show that was changed during the year. Jealousy stayed as the opener, but I think American Overture left and was replaced by Half the Battle. Peaches en Regalia was a Frank Zappa song, believe it or not!
