Re: 1949 AL Nationals

Dave,

When did the Grenadiers ever win Nationals? Maybe you meant after they became the Royal Airs?

What did you do in the Corps? Snare; Drum Major; Drum Instructor/Arranger

What years were you a Corps member? 1970-73; 78-79

Re: 1949 AL Nationals

Bob, you are right. The Grenadiers did NOT win Nationals. I was thinking of their close run against the Cadets in 1950, but they placed 2nd. This corps dominated the midwest for a few years, but then folded.

They probably folded in the 1954 time frame, before the Royal Airs started. But, I am not sure of the dynamics there.

Re: 1949 AL Nationals

note from alumnus Wayne (Older Sarge) Mounsey .. who marched in the 1949 corps:

Some corps music from 1949
1. Jada
2. All the Things You Are
3. Yankee Doodle Dandy. Concert Formation. (This was a powerful hit with the crowd.)

We made Jack Will, snare drummer, our Music Director. Gave him a Directors baton and took away his drum & sticks. Baton was a lot lighter. He couldn't read a stick of music.
