1954 - AL WASHINGTON, DC

Scores: again, 1 contest, no prelims (27 corps competed)

1. Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights, NJ 90.450
2. Holy Name Cadets, Garfield, NJ 88.85
3. St. Joseph’s Cadets, Newark, NJ 85.4
4. St. Vincent’s Cadets, Bayonne, NJ 84.133

Note: Cavaliers were 10th, Norwood was 14th.
Also note: the TOP FOUR corps were all from New Jersey .. within 5 miles of each other!

Although corps were smaller in those days, it's still amazing that you could field four corps - and four very GOOD corps - that close together. And that was before the days when people would travel long distances to march with a corps. I don't know if there are four corps in any one STATE these days.

There used to be an urban myth that there was a street corner in Chicago where you could stand on a given night and hear Norwood, the Cavaliers, Royal Airs, and Vanguard all rehearsing.
