Drum corps fraternity still exists

Here is an example which shows that some fraternity among drum corps people still exists ...

The Cavaliers (while on tour in the East) had the misfortune of a fire which destroyed their cook truck. Since touring corps usually feed their members at their sites, this was a MAJOR issue.

Two of the corps on that tour segment helped the Cavaliers by feeding the corps while they were together! The CADETS and the CAROLINA CROWN!

They incurred added expense and difficulties to help their drum corps friends!

The Cavaliers are now looking to find a replacement cook truck (and additional funds to pay for this).

Re: Drum corps fraternity still exists

It's not the first time they've had trouble with their kitchen truck like this, although from the pictures this time looks worse than the others. I don't know how they're feeding the guys at this point. Having worked on their food crew for a month in 1993, I can't imagine them touring without it.

Back to the days of McDonald's and meal money?

Re: Drum corps fraternity still exists

Last I heard, the Cavaliers were trying to lease a cook truck from a band until they could get a new one from their original supplier. I guess Bob is right .. they really NEED to have a cook truck to do the tours they have scheduled.

Wonder WHY they have such (fire) problems? Careless operation?

No, I am sure the days of "McDonalds and meal money" are LONG gone!

From the Cavaliers website, an update on their cook truck problem. A LOT of help has been given by other drum corps.

Cook Truck Fire Update

Friday, July 2nd, 2010 - 10:50 PM

In the early morning of June 16, we sustained a fire on our cook truck that rendered the vehicle unusable. In the days following the event, the drum corps community came to our aid in a multitude of big ways. We'd like to offer particular thanks to Northern York High School in Dillsburg, PA for the use of its kitchen and cafeteria facilities for 2 days; The Cadets and Carolina Crown for assisting us with meals in Allentown; and our loyal supporters who, as of today, have contributed over $8,000 to our Kitchen Emergency Fund.

Our thanks go to the following companies and organizations for their support:

Our brothers in The Classic Cavaliers for their generous monetary donation.

Del Monte Corporation for its generous contribution of canned goods.

Capital Regiment and Director Rick Bays for making their cook truck available to us for the summer, and helping to deliver and set up the truck.

Kitchens To Go for its rapid response investigating the cause of the fire and beginning work to restore the truck for our use.

Phantom Regiment, Madison Scouts, Santa Clara Vanguard, Spirit and the Blue Stars for their generous offers of assistance.
