Diceman Radio

Sitting here on a Saturday morning, paying bills, and listening to the 1965 Norwood corps at VFW Nationals on Diceman Radio on the internet! What a clean recording!

Oops...just cracked a note in the closer solo...

CLEAN drum line that year!

What did you do in the Corps? Snare; Drum Major; Drum Instructor/Arranger

What years were you a Corps member? 1970-73; 78-79

Re: Diceman Radio

1965 was a good year for the Imperials. Would have been better with a few breaks during the season. The corps paid a heavy price at Nationals for some earlier misdeeds.

Drum line was good that year .. and fun. Bill Strauts added "baritone" drums, pitched 1/3 octave below tenors but above bass. They added a neat voice, but the judges didn't like them .. without adding more snares to "balance" the sound. Go figure.

Re: Diceman Radio

I wondered what that sound was! Maybe Bill was ahead of his time. What a great guy he was!
