1965 was a good year for the Imperials. Would have been better with a few breaks during the season. The corps paid a heavy price at Nationals for some earlier misdeeds.
Drum line was good that year .. and fun. 
Bill Strauts added "baritone" drums, pitched 1/3 octave below tenors but above bass. They added a neat voice, but the judges didn't like them .. without adding more snares to "balance" the sound. 
Go figure.
