Being a Judge

Being a Judge

Was watching “Dancing With the Stars” with my wife recently. Watched the performances and the judges .. with their comments and scores.

Very interesting. Most of their scores and comments seemed to focus on “emotion” rather than performance / technique.

Remembering my work in judging drum corps and bands .. BOTH were important. But, performance was primary.

DCI may be moving toward the “emotion” model.

What are YOUR thoughts?

That was half the "fun" of instructing - figuring out which judge would be looking for what. Shows were often designed - or redesigned - based on who would be judging at Nationals!

What did you do in the Corps? Snare; Drum Major; Drum Instructor/Arranger

What years were you a Corps member? 1970-73; 78-79
