Half the Battle

I had always thought that Norwood was the only corps that played this song, but I'm listening to Diceman Radio this morning while doing bills and Madison Scouts played it in 1969! Anyone know the origins of it coming to Norwood, when we first played it, etc.? I always loved the song, and we even sang it with the words on the bus.

Re: Half the Battle

Good question, Bob. I had never heard of it before the corps played it. Words? Never heard them.

While it appears that the ORIGINAL tune was a patriotic song from WW2, there seem to be more recent versions which deal with other issues.

Re: Half the Battle

I thought Half the Battle is from An American in Paris. Carl Wischler (sp?) brought it to Norwood for flag pres in 1968 or '69 if my memory is correct. Or was it '70 or '71? Dropped for a few years and then brought back. Great tune - especially after a cruddy day at work!

Re: Half the Battle

We played it in 1973, and before that in 1970. We also sang it on the bus, so I assumed it had special significance to the corps. It is a great song!
