NATIONALS?

A recent post by Mary Lou Avera asked about people planning to attend "Nationals" this year.

Great idea to attend with a group, but strange to hear that term again. Most people now just refer to "DCI".

DCI "Nationals" are just the culmination of the appearance season for the 20 or so remaining top level drum corps in the US .. plus maybe some corps from other countries. (There could actually be some competition in the 'Open" class arena ... another 20 or so corps).

Back in "the day", when there were over 300 drum corps in the country, Nationals really meant something. If a corps could get through the local and state contests, and get enough contest experience and support, to get to Nationals that was great. To get past the prelims and into FINALS was a real achievement. To get to the top 4 was really memorable.

Winning the title was a real dream!

The Imperials did all of these but the last! And, we had a lot of fun and made many memories along the way. Use the "search" feature .. enter Nationals ... and see many of them.
