Re: NORWOOD PARK PARADES

A couple of recent posts on other threads talked about the corps appearances in Norwood's Memorial Day parade. This was (to me) always fun because it was local, short and you could show off to the neighbors and friends.

Of course, not ALL of our members lived in Norwood Park.

In fact, these appearances might have been one of the few recruiting aids the corps had. Recruiting new members seems to have been an 'afterthought' to our management most of the time.

Better local publicity, especially timed to local appearances, would have helped. Did we ever have a program to talk to local junior high and high school band people? and Directors?

Re: NORWOOD PARK PARADES

I don't remember any programs like that. However, the 1971 corps had their May camp at Westview Junior High School, where my Dad taught the drum line, and that resulted in many members from the Joliet/Romeoville area joining for the 1972 and 1973 seasons. There had to be close to 10 of us coming from there those years. The corps even bought one of those stretch airport limos for Dad to drive everyone back and forth.
