And More Drum Corps Outside of Drum Corps

Last night was the PBS broadcast of the 4th of July performance and fireworks from Washington DC (where we were last week). At one point they had John Williams conducting the orchestra in a medley of pieces from the recent movie "Lincoln". It featured a solo trumpet player throughout the piece. The trumpeter was Christopher Martin, son of Freddy Martin, founder of the Spirit of Atlanta! I remember Chris from 1980 - he was a little kid then - following his Dad around at rehearsals and on tour.

Small World, again!

What did you do in the Corps? Snare; Drum Major; Drum Instructor/Arranger

What years were you a Corps member? 1970-73; 78-79

Re: And More Drum Corps Outside of Drum Corps

After talking to Paul Milano (Cavalier drummer and former Spirit of Atlanta manager), Chris Martin also played the featured trumpet parts in the movie "Lincoln", and apparently John Williams was so taken with him that he is the "go to" guy for these performances and future movie parts. Chris' fulltime job is principal trumpet for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
