Wind in Denver lyrics

Hey all,

Was just wondering if anyone knew what the lyrics to "Wind in Denver" were.

I've tried my best to figure them out...I've seen him play it live and listened to the recorded versions I have, but still am not sure.

Any help would be great!

Thanks,
SJL

Re: Wind in Denver lyrics

Quite a while back someone over on the Krewe board wrote down what she hears the lyrics to be. Not sure if anyone has the lyrics for sure (obviously Sonny does!)

Re: Wind in Denver lyrics

Hey! I was just on the Krewe board reading that old thread too. A bunch of us had contributed to getting the lyrics right--including Genny--and posted them on the old John Hiatt board. But that's long gone, broken link, my files of that from old PC (7 yrs ago!) also long gone... I just heard it this weekend at his 2 FL shows). Misplaced my copy of Grant St to hear it again, but here's what I have in my head (chalking up the missing 3 lines to Oldtimer's Disease, lol):

There’s a wind up in Denver
Used to blow down here in New Orleans (2x)
I’m talking bout my baby
When she still had a thing for me

Oh she blowed so hard
Made me breathless yes indeed (2x)

She took the breath right out of me

…(2x)
When the wind died down
I was as lonesome as a man can be
So lonesome

From the roar of a tornado
To the whisper of a gentle breeze (2x)
Love strikes without warning, y’all
And takes the breath right out of me

Maybe someone else can fill in the (...) lines.

Re: Wind in Denver lyrics

Two years ago I asked the same question, Steve. And with the help of a fan over on the Krewe website I was finally able to read her fairly righteous interpretation of the lyrics. Many people are reluctant to get into the area of possible copyright infringement and they don't want to damage Sonny's ability to use and/or publish his songs to his own financial benefit. With that said, I don't know where you draw the line. Learning these lyrics gave me such added insight and appreciation for the song. So here are the words that appear in the Forum section of www.sonnyskrewe.org:

There's a wind up in Denver
Used to blow down here in New Orleans

Yeah, talkin' 'bout my baby
That's when she still had a thing for me

Yeah she blew so hard
Left me breathless yes indeed

And when the wind died down
I was lonesome as a man can be

From the roar of a tornado
To the whisper of a gentle breeze

Love can strike without a warning
And take the breath right out of me

Re: Wind in Denver lyrics

Thank you for this topic.
I've been questioning the lyric, too.
Now I could sing this song peacefully :)
