2979609 Drummer David Blyth

David Blyth died in Cambridge on May 18th 2016 aged 96. He was probably the last of the 800 or so Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders from the Malayan Campaign - I's like to hear otherwise. Certainly the last of the old 93rd as they were still known in 1930s India. David was well known in the local community for his bike racing and cross country running even into his 90s. He was a private man and I don't suppose many knew of his wartime service or that he was a Far East Prisoner of War in Pudu Gaol, Kuala Lumpur; Thailand and Indo-China . David was enlisted as a boy soldier/drummer in 1934. I say 'was enlisted' because he was taken from the Foundling Hospital School at Redhill then sent to join the battalion in India. He served in the RAF post war. There is a memorial service in Cambridge on June 27th.
