Can anyone help me trace my Grandfather? Royal Scots Fusiliers then Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders

I'm trying to trace my Grandfather's record - that of John Brown, Born in Airdrie 15.12.189. I know he served in WWI and have discovered he was in both the Royal Scots Fusiliers then Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. I have references for him 59571 and S/4384 Presumably for each regiment.

I can't seem to work out where I can trace his records, especially that of his record in the Highlanders. Was the Royal Scots Fusiliers merged with the Highlanders?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
