Based on the Scriptures, a number of points show why Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21, 2025, cannot be the “False Prophet” in the Book of Revelation.

The most definitive reason stems from Revelation 19:20, which describes the ultimate fate of the False Prophet and the Beast (Antichrist). The text explicitly states they are both captured at the Second Coming and "thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur."

In this context, the word “alive” is overwhelmingly understood to mean physically alive and active. It does not apply to those who experience physical death. Since Pope Francis is now deceased, he cannot fulfill this criterion of being captured and judged while physically alive at the future Second Coming of Christ.

The designated role of the False Prophet in Revelation 13, involves specific actions yet to occur globally. Revelation 13:11-17 describe the False Prophet implementing the "Mark of the Beast" system, a future scenario where individuals cannot buy or sell unless they receive the mark associated with the Antichrist.

As of now, such a universal, compulsory system restricting all commerce is not yet in place. Various forms of payment function freely. The individual who implements this future system must be alive and active during that period. Since this system has not yet been established, and Pope Francis has passed away, he cannot be the one to institute these future events described in the Book of Revelation.
