"The Jena Six"

Well, I don't know if I can really add anything to what's already been said. It is a tragic occasion when those persons vested with the public trust betray that trust, and turn on the very ones who empower them.

Whether the issue of "The Jena Six" go beyond the issues of race and ethnicity is a tough call as well, since bigotry, racism, and prejudice knows no bounds. Is this the lesson being taught within the American educational system?

It seems as though while Americans of African Descent/African Americans are almost, selling their souls to the devil-in some cases, in pursuit of academic ideals, promoting education, and higher education to better assimilate into the American mainstream, and hence not only to pursue--obtain the "American Dream," white American seems to be fighting just as hard to obstruct them in these pursuits.

There are as many rationales/reasons for why people do the things they do as there are people who do them, however, I really can't see teaching children about the Constitution of The United States, Thomas Jefferson, and the Declaration of Independence on one hand, and then allow them to commit terrorist acts on the other against those who may be perceived as different from them. Hanging hangman's noose on any tree anywhere on the globe would scare the dickens out of anyone, and is in and of itself a reprehensible act, and should have been dealt with within the context of the student's environment. Accordingly, the parents of these children should have been required to appear at some point, and an assessment should have been made as to what was going on in their homes: The schools curriculum should have been looked at/reviewed to see how cultural sensitivity, and awareness can be incorporated into the curriculum in lieu of the fact that the children aren't receiving this kind of training at home.

Listen if they can give out condoms in school, and teach children how to, "love" together--surely they find away to teach the children how not to annihilate one another because of race, culture, ethnicity, creed, or national origin: If necessary force the parents to attend grade school with the children for six months for the cultural awareness, and sensitivity training.

The law enforcement officials who permitted these young Black men to be processed through the system for protecting their honor, dignity, and heritage (by the way-the young Black men did exactly what anyone of those white officials, when they were that age, would have done had the situation been reversed) need a refresher course in cultural diversity, awareness, and sensitivity as well, and perhaps a nice hefty fine/suspension for the harsh, and excessive process they put these youngsters through-both groups of youngsters--Black, and White.

When is American going to begin practicing what it preaches--Democracy, tolerance, freedom, justice, and equality for everyone.
