SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

About time I led a "Show Us Yours"

Hey you lot,

If no one else has volunteered to lead the next Show Us Yours on 10th June, then I'm up for it. Have found a pub that we havn't been to since G and I have been in Cambridge, and the friendly bloke who runs the pub is more than happy to put up with us!
Question is - how far do you want to ride before we get to the pub? I've got a number or routes in mind, starting at just over 30km, with the longest being 50km (prob. a bit too far ...).

cheers,
Rich

50Km

Re: About time I led a "Show Us Yours"

Yep, go on Rich make it an epic !

Re: About time I led a "Show Us Yours"

I recall doing one or two rides last summer where it was 30 miles/50km to the pub. At least one, only a few of us did the long route.

So I would say a 50km route is fine, but ideally one where there's a bail out option to shorten the route if punctures/mechanicals/general whining necessitate.

Also best if the pub stop isn't 20 miles from town...

Paul

PS - on the subject of pub stops, Pete thought he'd heard that the Tree in Stapleford was closing down. The Longbow has reopened though, and they're happy to see us back.

Re: About time I led a "Show Us Yours"

No worries ... I'll scope out a couple of potential routes.
As for distance from town, it's not too far out (about 6-7 miles from the centre of town) - just need to arrange weather like we have at the moment
