SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Another New Guy...

Having been lurking for a couple of months now, I thought I'd drop in and say hi.

I've only been mountain biking for a few months, but have enjoyed several trips to Thetford, and would like to start doing a bit more in the evenings.. I'd been using my road bike all summer, but the dark/wet/cold put an end to that. The incentive of a pint at the other end may just be the motivation I need.

How many of you tend to go out at this time of year?

Cheers,
Dean.

Re: Another New Guy...

Hi Dean

The size of the group varies depending on the weather, the ride and people's busy lives so anything from 6 to 20!

Tonight might be a good ride for a newbie as it sounds like it won't be an epic and time spent at the pub will be the priority

Re: Another New Guy...

I don't yet have any proper night lights, and I'm currently looking into that. At the slight risk of making excuses, I'm also short on appropriate clothing - Especially for the return journey.

I might pop along to the meeting place either this evening or Thursday to say hi, and see what other people are doing with regards to lights.

Do you just loiter outside the restaurant at 7.30ish?
