SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Olympics MTB Tickets???

Hi All,

Having failed at the first attempt to get tickets for the Men's MTB event, I decided to buy some for the Women's event.

The second chance website said that there was "Good Availability". However, when I logged-on on Friday at 6 am they showed as "Currently Unavailable" and this has persisted ever since - and I have checked multiple times. It appears that they never became available for a second chance sale.

Does anyone know anything more about this? I've looked for a way of contacting LOCOG to find out, but I can't find one.

Re: Olympics MTB Tickets???

sounds like a scam to me!

you didn't give them your credit card details did you?

seriously though, i didn't even bother as i suspect the coverage will be better on the BBC than you will see on the day at the site so i didn't even apply.

good luck

Re: Olympics MTB Tickets???

I was one of the 14m who didn't get any tickets at all (I don't believe the latest figure of 1.2m). I had some thoughts of trying for the basketball final, but forgot when the 'second chance sale' started. By the time I remembered and looked into it, I read that although there were tickets available for a few things (including the basketball and the Women's MTB - but 1.7m of the 2.2m tickets available in this round were for football), they had all sold within two hours, leaving pretty much only tickets for football.

I also read that most people who tried for tickets spent a long time to no avail, and there are lots of reports of the ticket site crashing - although no surprise that LOCOG claimed that it didn't crash, it was 'just a bit slow'!

I'm left feeling pretty pissed off with the whole thing, and that LOCOG have been about as much use as a one-legged man at an arse-kicking party...

Re: Olympics MTB Tickets???

Oh, I got tickets alright....football!! I've written a question to LOCOG through the well-hidden facility on their website, complaining about the hash-up they've made.

I may even complain to Lord Seb himself!!

Re: Olympics MTB Tickets???

On a brighter note, isn't it fantastic that the whole nation is fired-up enough to want to attend, and for these events to sell-out? My only concern is that when we watch the events on TV (as most of us will have to settle for), the 'Corporates' who paid so much money in sponsorship, and got priority tickets, will be conspicuous by their absence, leaving lots of seats empty. Oh well, I guess at least they've paid.

See you on Box Hill for the road race...
