SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Hoops Barton

The Hoops still looks the prefered venue for tonight.

I shall be roading most of it (going to be like that for a few more weeks while my back recovers).

Looks like another cold night - I've seen -6C forecast.

Re: Hoops Barton

Does that mean Ecos' gps will be showing -12 ?
on another note....
Don't worry Pete 'forty quid' Fenton
I'll get my bantams to talk to his bantams and get them to start lining them up from 20.30
See you later

Re: Hoops Barton

Should be out, planning on bringing two wheels and a balmy 0'C forecast.

Re: Hoops Barton

Hello!
I was thinking of coming out tonight. (I have been out with the group before, several times a couple of years ago!!) but i wanted your opinion on the conditions... i'm a bit scared about slipping on the ice. Did you find it was like that on Tuesday?
Emily

Re: Hoops Barton

i'm going to be out and see if i can break another chain tonight.

sorry Emily, but i've not been off road since last week so couldn't comment on the conditions.

i rode the tow path out to baits bit lock on monday and it was a git, that was on Shwalbe snow tyres, i suspect if you run the tyres at a low pressure and take it slow on the turns you should be fine......famous last words!!

Re: Hoops Barton

Hoping to be out, provided this white stuff thats just started dropping at Kingston doesnt amount to much. Going to take it easy and ride with Pasty - my first outing on a bike for weeks.

Re: Hoops Barton

I'm planning to be out.

Emilly, I was out on Tuesday night and it was unbroken drifts of snow that were the problem rather than ice per se - the drifts were small and hard going rather than a slip hazard. The narrow public footpath back from Fulbourn by Tescos and the David Lloyd Gym was an ice rink, and as it has not thawed since then, there is a risk that you may encounter some ice tonight albeit I suspect it won't be for much of the ride.

Re: Hoops Barton

I'm packed and ready to roll. My forecast shows very light snow from 8pm till 7am tomorrow and -1C all night. -6C is for tomorrow night!

I'm happy with my spokes and hubs, but has anyone got any suggestions for which hoops?

Dom

Re: Hoops Barton

Cool, thanks for the low-down!
I'm still undecided so don't wait for me if i'm not there on time. If not enjoy and i'll see you next week!
