SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.
  • Don't ride too close to the person in front. If they crash into a badger, you'll need time to swerve.

MTB 17/6 near Bury St Edmunds, and mud tyre recommendations

I'm headed to race at Ickworth next weekend? Is anyone else?

Also, I'm looking for mud tyre recommendations for around here with the nice clay-like muck we have. Needs to be a 29", and tubeless ready.

Re: MTB 17/6 near Bury St Edmunds, and mud tyre recommendations

There is only one true 29er tubeless mud tyre that works around here. BONTRAGER 29x2.00 mud x or if it is only light mud SWHALBE Rocket Ron tubeless ready. But if in doubt, get the mud x out !!

Re: MTB 17/6 near Bury St Edmunds, and mud tyre recommendations

Bontrager Mud X. You might find them locally at Cambridge Cycle Co. They're in Great Shelford.

Re: MTB 17/6 near Bury St Edmunds, and mud tyre recommendations

Thanks for the tips all.

And may I ask what people are using for a more all-around tyre? Specialized Captain's? or Hutchinson Python's?

I've a pair of Spec Renegade's on the bike now, which are nice and light and roll super fast on the bridleways- but are not great in thick, deep mud.

Re: MTB 17/6 near Bury St Edmunds, and mud tyre recommendations

Continental X-King Black Chili Protection 29x2.2, or the standard folding version if you're not a millionaire...
No contest...

Re: MTB 17/6 near Bury St Edmunds, and mud tyre recommendations

Phew Mark... I was getting worried about you for a minute.... Thought you'd changed jobs or something !!
Those Madison tats won't wash off you know.

Re: MTB 17/6 near Bury St Edmunds, and mud tyre recommendations

Madison, normally have zero stock and will probably be on back order if it's anything like my missus shimano road shoes, waited three months for them.

Re: MTB 17/6 near Bury St Edmunds, and mud tyre recommendations

Does mark smell of bloodied steak or something..... Maybe he's a fox..... A cycling fox, with an ability to ride a bike...... It's a pity 'The worlds strangest animals' is only available on sky channel 0898 otherwise he would be more of a celeb at the next mammal racing show tour !?!
Coat door,..........

Re: MTB 17/6 near Bury St Edmunds, and mud tyre recommendations

Back to tyres......

Anyone have a pair of reasonable condition all-condition or mud tyres they want to part with?
