SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.
  • Don't ride too close to the person in front. If they crash into a badger, you'll need time to swerve.

Queen's Head

so anyone going to brave the sub zero temperatures and join me tonight, i'm optomistic that my wheels wont clog this time they just might freeze solid instead

Re: Queen's Head

Hoping to be out tonight - I suspect the trails will be a little firmer to ride on than of late, a good thing I think!

Re: Queen's Head

I'm hoping to be out too. It might be better to stay on the trails as much as possible tonight -- on the tarmac we might just have an episode of Swan Lake if we hit some black ice...

Re: Queen's Head

Swan Lake......Me...... more like Demolition Derby.
but good point, we want to be as far from witnesses as posible when we dismount gracefuly.

Re: Queen's Head

Planning to ride, just fitted my ice spiker tyres to try to improve odds of staying on the bike.

Re: Queen's Head

Yep, and me too. As much off-road as possible, please. I came off quite badly on Cantelupe Farm road on Tuesday night - sheet black ice on tarmac - and took a bit of a bashing. Twice in one week would be above and beyond the call of duty!

Therefore, I'll be out on one of these...
