SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

New bike shop

I saw on singletrackworld that there's a new bike shop near Cambridge that sells Orange, Santa Cruz and Rocky Mountain bikes: C6 Bikes.

I haven't yet had a bike serviced there or bought a bike from them, but since they're focused on mountain biking, which is rare for a bike shop around Cambridge, and since they're selling decent brand bikes, I thought it'd be worth checking them out. So I dropped by on Saturday, and they seem pretty nice.

So if you are in need of a bike service or want to buy a new bike, give them a try and let me know how you get on.

In the interests of full disclosure, I have a Santa Cruz, so it's in my interest to a have an LBS that's an SC agent!
