SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

forks

My cheapo suntour forks are on the way out- does anyone have any recommendations for some budget 26" forks (or an old pair in the garage they want to sell!)? Rock shox recon air seem to be the internets choice. Thanks!

Re: forks

Hi Ben,

Not sure if these are what you are after, but they are going for a song, (not literally)

They are rock shock J3SL. Circa early 2006. The caliper attachment bolt's axis is parallel to the Front wheel spindle. Staunchon diameter is 28 mm there is 116mm of stanchion exposed on full extension. 203 mm of head tube remains. I think its 1.125" steer-er. Been used once I'd say.

Re: forks

Hi Ben,
Got a nice set of Viners forks, really easy to handle, very smooth & quite good nick, easily cleaned (according to Dave)
£25

Re: forks

Thanks both, away on holiday for next week, will get back in touch when I get back. Duncan do you have model number so I can google what they are. Ta!

Also just spotted this which looks amazingly good spec for the price, and incl with some well reviewed rock shox air forks! http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-560-mountain-bike-id_8293151.html
