SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Train out, bike back

How about Elsenham this week?
Train at 19.15 from Cambridge North, 19.21 from Cambridge 19.26 from Shelford.

Anyone game?

Re: Train out, bike back

Hi Tones,
Yah, sounds good to me old man. Will check with er in doors.

Re: Train out, bike back

Tony, as far as I know the "Train out bike back" this Thursday has been changed into a last night out with Andy at the Tamarind in Teversham.

Re: Train out, bike back

Surely he has/is suggesting Tuesday for said curry?

Re: Train out, bike back

Has a destination pub been pencilled in for this ride yet? Can't do the ride but hope to make the pub

Re: Train out, bike back

I'll come. Probably Camb N. Definitely the train?

Re: Train out, bike back

How about Three Horseshoes at Stapleford as a pub?
or Tickell Arms if we feel we need an earlier stop? (or two stops...)

Re: Train out, bike back

Yes to both, and now searching for the GPX file. Not stored on my Garmin (2 years missing for some reason) so will have to download when home.

Tony - there's a possibility that you can download the route straight from my Garmin Activities. The date of the ride was 18th July 2013.

Not stored on my Garmin (2 years missing for some reason)

Hmmm - I've made that sound like I was somehow 'absent' for 2 years. Some say it was MUCH longer than that....

Re: Train out, bike back

Downloading anything would rely on me being home on time and my steam powered analytical engine being at functional pressure to begin said download. Both are unlikely. If necessary I'll guess my way back from Elsenham.

Re: Train out, bike back

Planning to get the train from Cambridge North.

Re: Train out, bike back

Planning on heading to the pub this evening so hopefully see you at the three horseshoes.

Let me know if there is a change of plan.
