SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Forum Changes by Bravenet

Hi All,

On Thursday, Bravenet changed their forum styles - this was most noticeable by a bright pink background line appearing on the screen and some unexpected whinging from Duncan and Tony - who'd have thought?

I've toned down the pink background to something more sober and pastel-y and changed the grey background to one of the bars above to a green colour that, well, I quite like.

I've noticed that the text now wraps in portrait view on my smartphone and iPad and, dare I say it, I quite like the changes. It makes it look smarter and easier to read now.

Other than changing the colours, I have not made any changes to the Forum style - this is purely Bravenet's initiative and I can't change it back.

They have also added a third format with which to view the Forum - discussion style (as well as Board and Threaded). This shows the text of the first post in the thread. Again, I quite like this so I'll be changing to that view from now on my devices - users can change this layout independently.

Does this make your blood boil or are you unbothered or do you LOVE it? What's love got to do, got to do with it?

Re: Forum Changes by Bravenet

How do I put my avatar back in the bastard thing?

Re: Forum Changes by Bravenet

And now I can't change the layout (back to discussion) nor see the 'Return to website' buttons on my smartphone view. (Google Chrome on Android).

I'll contact Bravenet about it. But let me know if there are any other things 'wrong' before I do.

Cheers

TOM

Re: Forum Changes by Bravenet

Hi Tom,

Thanks for letting us know it wasn't your fault....I too cannot "return to website" when viewing on my I phone. But the most annoying change for me is that when viewing on my PC via Firefox browser I get "threaded style" and a small circular button which says "Change to threaded style" I click on it and it stays "threaded". (I prefer board style).

Viewing in Google Chrome on PC, I get the full choice (Board/Threaded/Discussion) and it all works. Ho hum.

Re: Forum Changes by Bravenet

Thanks Pete - I'll feed that back.

Re: Forum Changes by Bravenet

Happy to see a less hangover challenging colour as a background now Tom. Like you I can see no way of changing views on my phone. Or avatars. And all personal info had to be re-entered. Apart from that a great leap forward. Mao had one of those. Similarly successful I believe.

Re: Forum Changes by Bravenet

CAN return to website and change views on an Android tablet but no avatar option.

Re: Forum Changes by Bravenet

Yeah - it seems as though they have worked on how it looks and wraps on mobiles but not completed it.

Like you, I've had no issues on a tablet view (except the avatar). Looks really good, in fact.

I think that I have enough to go back to them with now.

Looks lubbly jubbly!

Re: Forum Changes by Bravenet

Hi All,

Well, I can't fault Bravenet for their responsiveness. I've had 3 emails back and we have:-

- The option to have Avatars back (see post by Duncan!)
- Choice of forum layout back on mobile (certainly on my Android phone) so you can select 'discussion', 'board' or 'threaded'
- A new menu bar visible in mobile, which shows 'return to website', etc. when clicked.
- The forum defaults to 'board' layout.

Also, I'm told that there are new colour schemes to try.

Last thing was that the photo didn't scale in mobile view, but I've been given some advice about how to make that work in the future.

I've responded with our thanks to the Bravenet Customer Service team - their CS Director, Tim (no surname given), made sure that he responded.

Regards

TOM

Re: Forum Changes by Bravenet

That mostly seems to work on the mobile. It genuinely is an improvement (now that it's all sorted).
