SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Thurs away day by car?

Evening all,
I know it is only Sunday & we don’t usually plan our rides until about 1hr before they take place :) BUT I have a mate over from the USA (Cambridge born & bred but living in Colorado) & he’s hoping to join us on Thurs & wondered what the plans could be? It says day out by car? Does this mean evening out by car? I think the last one Pat, Duncan & I ended up in Royston on top of a big hill!

Cheers
Nige

Re: Thurs away day by car?

I'd be up for an away day and could offer a space in a car, or possibly two at a squeeze.

Re: Thurs away day by car?

Where do you fancy wor Tony?

Re: Thurs away day by car?

Last time we parked at the Dog & Duck, Therfield & had a good bimble around Roystonshire :)

Re: Thurs away day by car?

I have no plans but that area sounds OK, or possibly around Newport. Any other suggestions? Or routes?

Re: Thurs away day by car?

I have a gpx for Therfield so if we don’t get any other takers then could go for that option? Do you have a Garmin that can follow gpx?

Re: Thurs away day by car?

Just looked up the one we did on Aug 11th 2016, from the Fox & Duck Therfield. Its 25 miles and a bit lumpy, especially the 2nd half (20% gradients). I can email the .tcx file if you like

Re: Thurs away day by car?

Hi Pete,
Can you email it to Tony as my Garmin cannot upload any files?

Cheers
Nige

Re: Thurs away day by car?

Will do

Re: Thurs away day by car?

Just sent them to Tony (added a clockwise version, so we go to Baldock first , then Royston)

Re: Thurs away day by car?

Meet at Coach and Horses at Newport at 8.00 if you fancy a ride in a different area.

Re: Thurs away day by car?
